At Turbosmart, we don’t just refine the way boost is controlled — we rethink it entirely. We’re launching a completely new way to handle CO2 and compressed gas boost control: a product range built around our world-first, proprietary “control in cap” technology. 

Traditionally CO2 Boost Control has required a complex arrangement of pressure regulators, sensors, solenoids and high pressure air fittings. Turbosmart has simplified all that by including the traditional “fill” and “spill” solenoids directly into the wastegate cap eliminating the need for complex pneumatic plumbing and reducing the number of failure points in the CO2 system.

Integrating the electronic control components into the cap not only simplifies the plumbing to a single regulated pressure line from the CO2 or Compressed Air source straight to the wastegate cap. It also improves the accuracy of the dome pressure control, maximizing response while reducing error.

Straightgates lead the way

Leading the range are the Compressed Gas StraightGate’s and Compressed Gas BoostGate’s, now available in multiple size options to suit a wide range of builds. The CO2 StraightGate’s are available in 40mm, 50mm, and 76mm configurations — with and without integrated “spill and fill” solenoids. BoostGate’s, built for charge pipe mounting, come in 50mm and 76mm sizes and feature an aluminium valve body, ideal for cold-side boost control setups..

We’re also releasing CO2 control caps in a conventional poppet-style wastegate design, available in 45mm, 50mm, and 60mm sizes — each equipped with the same integrated solenoid technology, bringing smart control to more traditional setups.

CO2 Boost Control – Made Easy

Compressed Gas variants of all Turbosmart external wastegates are designed specifically for wastegate control strategies that use an external pressure source such as CO2 or compressed air to vary the wastegate opening position. Longevity and performance are ensured by an inverted high pressure Nomex diaphragm built specifically for the higher pressure differentials found in CO2 / Compressed Air boost control strategies.

The Compressed Gas StraightGate (solenoid) is the first ever boost control integrated CO2 operated external wastegate. Turbosmart has taken the complexity of out of CO2 boost control by taking the “spill” and “fill” control solenoids as well as the dome pressure sensor required for CO2 boost control and integrating them directly into the wastegate cap.

Combine this integrated control cap with Turbosmart’s range of award winning StraightGate bodies and you have the world’s highest-flowing, user friendly external CO2 wastegates period! Turbosmart’s StraightGate wastegate design comprises a zero-offset inline butterfly-style valve that allows enormous flow and almost linear control across the operating range. This leads to unparalleled boost control for your high performance applications.

Integrating the electronic control components into the cap is the icing on the cake, simplifying the plumbing to a single regulated pressure line from the CO2 or Compressed Air source straight to the wastegate cap. This eliminates up to 8 pressure fittings and possible failure points from the critical boost control system.

Charge Air Control – Made Easy

The same award winning technology that has gone into our range of compressed gas wastegates has been applied to our cold side control BoostGates also. 

The Compressed Gas BoostGates takes Turbosmart’s award winning electronic BoostGate and simplifies the control system with a diaphragm style actuator built specifically for use with Compressed Gas / CO2 boost controllers. In addition to a custom high pressure Nomex diaphragm Compressed Gas BoostGates are available with the same integrated “fill and spill” solenoid technology at the wastegate range for seamless control integration.

Not sure how charge air control and the BoostGate works? Unlike a traditional external wastegates, which bypass exhaust gas around the turbine housing to reduce turbocharger shaft speed and effectively, boost levels – Charge Air Control is a controlled bleed of the compressed air on the cold side of the turbocharger system (ie boost). Mounted to the charge pipe, a BoostGate can be used to modulate boost pressure directly, rather than the indirect method of traditional exhaust side wastegate boost control.

Charge Air Control is specifically suited to applications like drag racing where turbocharger specifications have already been optimized and the turbine housing is not a limiting performance factor (ie engine pressure ratio’s below 1). Turbosmart BoostGate’s use a zero offset butterfly-styled valve that enables incredible resolution, enormous flow and the kind of boost control required to deliver the perfect pass, every time.
